
New Independent Chairman For American Airlines As Doug Parker Plans To Retire
American Airlines Group Inc. has announced that Greg Smith is soon going to replace Doug Parker as the independent chairman of the Airline since the latter will retire from the board on April 30, 2023. The appointment of Smith is part of a long-term succession planning process followed by the board.
The Appointment Of A New Chairman
As per reports, Greg Smith is appointed as the independent chairman of American Airlines and he will take charge from April 30, 2023, since at that time the previous chairman Doug Parker is going to retire from the board.
Parker said, “Our CEO transition has been flawless thanks to the great work of Robert Isom, his team, and our board.” Further, he added “Now is the right time for our chairman transition and we are fortunate to have Greg Smith in place to assume that role. Greg has made outstanding contributions since joining American’s board and his strong knowledge of the aviation industry and his decades of leadership experience will be invaluable going forward.”

He was involved in managing overall financial activities and had oversight of Boeing’s manufacturing, quality, supply chain, operations and program management teams.

And, Ray Robinson and Jim Albaug will also retire from the American Airlines board at the end of the present term which coincides with the upcoming annual meeting of the company’s stakeholders. Both Robison and Albaug have served as distinguished members of the board since 2005 and 2013, subsequently.
