The first national park in Canada, Banff is also rather high; there are more than 4,000 square miles of parkland here, so there is plenty of room to explore. In Banff, you may engage in just about every outdoor activity you can imagine, including skiing, canoeing, fishing, bird viewing, mountain climbing, hiking, and cycling, to mention a few. Just northeast of Banff is Lake Minnewanka, a glacier lake that is 17 miles (27 km) long and fed by the Cascade River. The Stoney First Nations people, who used to hunt and camp along the lake's banks, gave it its name. They gave it the name "Minn-waki," which means "Lake of the Spirits," because they thought spirits lived there. You'll have a terrific day picnicking, exploring, and boating around the lake if that doesn't scare you away.

To the northwest of Banff lies Mt. Norquay, this has a ski resort in the winter. It is ideal for hiking in the summer, since it is the starting point for two of the most well-known day-hike paths in the area. It's really stunning and unquestionably among the top things to do in Banff. The greatest and most recognisable thing to do in Banff is probably Lake Louise (not to be confused with the name of the surrounding little town). Once you're done taking in the breathtaking views at the lake, take out the Lake Louise Lakeshore Trail, which circles the lake and travels along its northwest coast before connecting with other paths further on.
