Air Canada is Soon Going to Launch Montreal-Amsterdam Flights

March 21, 2023

Air Canada, the Canadian flag carrier, has announced its plans to launch a new seasonal route between Montreal-Trudeau (YUL) and Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS). As the airline bounces back from its pandemic slump, it is expanding its network across Canada, the United States, and Europe.

Learn More about the New Route

Air Canada will add a new direct route between Montreal's Trudeau International Airport and Amsterdam, operating AC900 and AC901 flights from June 2nd to October 14th, providing five weekly connections between the two cities using its Boeing 787 Dreamliners. Air Canada will compete directly with Dutch flag carriers KLM and Air Transat on this route, but the carrier will provide two additional frequencies, providing customers with up to 6,000 seats per month throughout the season.

This summer, Air Canada will offer flights to Europe from five Canadian airports, including Toronto (YYZ), Vancouver (YVR), Calgary (YYC), Halifax (YHZ), and Montreal, connecting to several destinations, including London Heathrow (LHR), Frankfurt (FRA), and Paris (CDG).

The Reason behind the Introduction of a New Route

Despite posting a $140 million loss in February 2022, Air Canada reduced its losses compared to 2021, and the airline aims to return to its 2019 capacity by 2024, targeting around 90% through 2023. However, the carrier is facing increased challenges on many domestic routes due to the gradual return of WestJet and new competitor Porter Airlines, with several popular regional services facing direct low-cost competition.
